Looking today and all I can see is just text files with references to
jpg's.

Is the retension very short or does Giga have a problem with this
group?

Sorry
Do not use Gigaganews.
Maybe if you try a retention post and see what happens.
My servers show everything I have posted recently.

Any others having any problems?

Wow, apparently you guys are new.
Giganews does NOT allow binaries in non-binaries groups.
That's why I was a tad dismayed to see avoice migrate here.
Easynews does, but they are in total disarray...they have some major
server problems that have been going on for 6 months.

A LOT of people are cancelling their accounts, and I've considered it,
but if I do....I won't be able to access this group anymore.

Migrating was ok....but it should have been to 'any' empty group with
the word 'binaries' in the name. That way 'everyone' could join the
fun.

That is why originally I went to bos.
At the time it was dead.
I considered a number of binary groups but did not want to venture off
the list. Most are h/c and I want nothing to do with them. Others are
posting too old of boys/men. And others have their posting rules or are
video only. Thought it best to take one of the a.f. groups that had
similar content in the past but were dead now. Also there is no need to
build retention here. If someone can find a suitable binary group, I
would consider it. It would have to be readily available on a number of
servers [astraweb, easynews, giganews, teranews, etc.].

Ok, since I have EN 'and' Giga it only took me a couple minutes to
find a dead/empty group with an easy name that we could easily venture
to. (I had to do this a couple months back for another friendly group)

Since there are only a few of us, it wouldn't be hard to spread the
word.

How about a.b.daws ??

The name won't invite unwanted ' related' spam, and it's clean dead
empty.
Both EN and Giga carry it.

Thoughts?

NS does not care daws, but it does support binaries in non-binary
groups. Also, I think it should be a group on Doc's list.

You asked for thoughts - those are mine, fwiw.

Hi Me,

A 'collective' implies that everyone will contribute to the community.
If a few people do all of the work then the collective concept falls
apart. It doesn't take the contributors long to figure out that since
they're doing all the work, they make as well concentrate on making
each other happy. That is why there are so many groups with private,
encrypted, non-shared files.

You will find that avoice is one of the most reasonable and unselfish
posters in the groups today. And if you think about it, YOU are here
today because he decided to revive this group after being kindly
booted out of the other group he revived.

Posters rule. That is the way it has to be because I've found no one
yet who can make all the lurkers happy. If you want to be a poster,
then I suggest that you do so and people will be more willing to
listen to you. In fact, you can establish your own group in daws, if
you want. If you choose to do so, I will add your group to the list
and I will even post in support of you in that group. Deal?

Since avoice stepped back into zippo a week ago, there have been three
posters: avoice, gustav and dudewiththehair (Doc NP-f31). If they are
going to post then they are the ones who get to decide about where,
how and what to post. Anyone else who wants to access what they post
will need to make the proper arrangements whether it be news service
providers, news readers, etc. As for me, I think avoice is awesome, he
is a friend, and I will follow wherever he goes and post in support of
him.

I hope this doesn't come off as sounding snarky. These are facts, not
judgments I spouting.

My best to you all,

according to you, I'm a non-entity in here.

All I did was suggest to go to a group that EVERYONE can receive.
This group, is not one of them. Anyone who doesn't have Easynews can't
see anything. (and the 'majority' of newsservers don't allow binaires
in non-binaries group. With the rate that Usenet is growing, I'm
guessing that 'al'l servers will eventually follow that thinking.)

I guess you get to 'rule', since I can't contribute.

Sorry, if I offended you, me. But you don't have to post pictures or
movies to contribute. You can be a part of this community with
positive participation. You can, at the very least, thank the posters
if you're going to go to all the trouble to post in the first place.

I find it hard to believe that you don't have the resources to change
newsgroup providers considering you're already paying for Easynews and
Giganews. Seems to me you'd be saving a bundle each month by switching
to Astraweb. Have you ever considered asking your providers to add
this group? Easynews has been having horrendous server problems for
awhile and this at a time when they made a stupid business mistake
causing them to lose hundreds of customers. Are you saying that the
binaries don't show up on Easynews? Because you are POSTING through

you're coming across as unfair to the posters?

All that being said, and my apologies once again if I've trodden on
your feelings, I do hate to get off on a bad start; avoice is a MOST
patient and considerate poster and he has indicated that he is willing
to think about a compromise on the final destination for his group.
Therefore, I suggest that you enter into negotiations with him, in a

I look forward to a long friendship and your friendly, positive

Yep, on an attitude level, we're both on the same page...it's just not
coming out that way.

But you haven't been reading the posts 'real' carefully.
Easynews allows binaries. That's why I'm in here.
Giganews does not. Some earlier posters were asking why? I explained.

I have both services. My main focus is dvd's. I enjoy the ONE YEAR
retention on Giganews, that's why I have them. I've been with them for
3 years.
I've been with Easynews for 9. Supernews before that...in fact, I've
been in Usenet since 1995 when we had to use a small prog to DECODE
all the pictures in these groups to see them.

I like Easynews because they have a web interface. It makes
downloading 4.7 gig movies with one click a complete breeze and much
faster than NNTP. That's why I'm weathering the storm with their
current abominable service...hoping it will soon fix itself.

I really don't want to subscribe to Astranews too...just so I can get
this one group. Doesn't make sense. I'll stay with Easynews as long as
I can.

My only concern, is that with Easynews losing money daily, and the
incredible growth of Usenet each day....is that the non-binary groups
with binaries...are going to go away.

I don't care one way or another WHAT group we all migrate to. Since
I'm such a loser, and sit at this machine most of the day, I thought I
would just look for a new one that was empty. Found one right away.
It was merely a suggestion. I don't care....PICK one.

I was trying to help 'everyone'. The people using Giganews can't enjoy
any of the pics in here, so I told them why.

(and just for the record, I thanked Avoice profusely back in .bos)

I'm not an asshole folks. I'm a vet. With a lot of time on his hands.

Looking today and all I can see is just text files with references
to jpg's.
Is the retension very short or does Giga have a problem with this
group?
TIA Superchappie
Thanks everyone for your comments.
I like the suggestion of Binarie Group as named, but it must be up to
Avoice.
Love your posts so would appreciate your thoughts on a change.
TIA

Please read my post. As long as we all agree, i don't believe it
should up to 'one' person. That hints at exactly why we left the
'other' group.
Everything should be collective. No one should be in charge.
Hi Me,
A 'collective' implies that everyone will contribute to the community.
My best to you all,
Doc

PS- Thanks avoice for your latest installment. I can't wait for the
next one.
Hi Doc,

If any moves are to be made to another group. It would take a collective
effort to build retention there as any posts made would just disappear
into cyberspace within nanoseconds of posting. Is everyone willing to do
their part? Using the server I am making these posts with severely
limits the amount of posting I can do. The burden of establishing
retention would have to be borne by you.

Otherwise I am comfortable posting here.

I am open to suggestions.

Retention is up to each newsserver.
Giganews announced this past monday, that they are now at 365 days.
Easynews (when it's working) is at about 100.
